All concrete is not created equal
At Akerly Concrete, Inc., we know that construction projects can have different requirements. That’s why we produce concrete with a wide variety of characteristics. Here are a few examples:
Concrete is composed of a mixture of aggregate, cement and water. Various additives are available to help control set time or enhancement of workability, durability and strength depending on your project’s specific needs.
High Early Concrete
Also known as HES becomes stronger faster than standard concrete. It can be designed to be strong enough to support vehicles within a few days. In some cases, it can be ready for vehicle traffic in just a few hours. Typically HES Concrete is created using a higher cement content than is used in Standard Concrete mix. However, in some cases, chemical additives are mixed in to further enhance early strength.
In some applications, such as suspended deck slabs, bridge slabs or multi-story structures, Lightweight Concrete is an option often considered. Lightweight concrete is produced by replacing the gravel or stone in Standard Concrete with a lightweight expanded shale aggregate which has been heated in a controlled environment, causing it to expand. This process makes the shale lighter per cubic foot than normal weight aggregates. The weight of Lightweight Concrete is roughly 14.5 pounds per cubic foot as compared to Standard Concrete which weighs roughly 18 pounds per cubic foot.
Exposed Aggregate Concrete
Concrete that has had its surface removed to expose the features of the gravel or stone in the mix. It is often used in to enhance the beauty or add interest in residential or commercial projects while keeping costs down. Many types of grave, stone and even shells can be used to get various looks depending on the individual tastes of the owner and budget available.
Decorative Colored Concrete
Concrete has long been a standard building material; and most customers recognize its’ value. However, many people don’t like the way it looks. Today’s consumer demands more than just strength and dependability from their building products. That’s why we offer Colored Concrete by special order. For a full list of available colors, call today.
